It is well documented that our domestic dogs may lack the opportunities to enhance or extend their cognitive and other abilities. For many dogs, a lack of mental stimulation contributes to a range      of behavioural challenges. Although this may be one reason or the motivation to engage in upskilling your dog and providing a 'Brain Workout', it is potentially beneficial to all dogs, from youngsters to older dogs and all ages in between.

This course explains the process of playing and teaching these activities in detail, with things to watch out for and how to increase your dog's skill level.

What will you and your dog learn?

  • Activities involving Proprioception, Balance and Co-ordination - having good proprioception is vital for dogs! It helps them move safely, avoid injuries, and stay healthy. Balance and coordination are beneficial at any age, from puppies to seniors. Just make sure to consult your vet if your dog has any medical issues.

  • Activities involving Targeting - target training with dogs is a fun and effective way to teach them new behaviours and skills. It helps build confidence and strengthens the bond between you and your dog

  • Activities involving olfaction – the sense of smell - scent work is an amazing way to engage your dog's mind and body. It's a fun activity that brings out their natural sniffing abilities and strengthens your bond. Plus, it's a great form of mental and physical exercise for them!

  • Activities involving memory and object discrimination - dogs spontaneously encode different features of objects, leading to the construction of multisensory mental representations. By playing games involving memory and object discrimination we can increase their confidence and expand their understanding of various words, providing mental stimulation.

  • Activities for out and about - some of these activities and games may help dogs who are stressed or react to various triggers when out on walks.
